Antony Maanyara is the current University of Nairobi Chairman having taken over from Babu Owino. Manyara has been Meru youth leader and also ODM Youth league leader in Meru, meaning his relationship with the former premier is not something new.Raila Odinga on Thursday met University students togeher with their patron Agnes Kagure, a reknown Business woman and a one time Nairobi county nominated deputy governor.
Among the top issue Antony Manyara addressed Raila Odinga was reasons Africa’s universities have had a poor rating in global rankings largely just because of lagging behind in the execution and dissemination of research. He also talked about Students Building Bridges for Kenya whereby Kenya’s democracy is severely tested each election year and despite numerous reforms including a progressive constitution of Kenya 2010, ethnic antagonism and divisive political competition is normalized at the expense of
Manyara said that against this background that COMRADESHIP was conceptualized as the Kenya Students’ platform to support the Building Bridges Initiative. The critical role of students who form over half of Kenya’s population in the BBI objectives cannot be gain said. The resolution is essential for leveraging strategic actions for equitable and sustainable interventions in peace building processes through the involvement of students from the Universities, Colleges, Technical Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVETs), High schools and Primary schools.
COMRADESHIP movement draws its membership from students’ leaders from over Kenya’s 71 universities (both public and private), numerous colleges, 56 TVET institutions – and will seek to engage and recruit student leaders of all primary and secondary schools in Kenya towards supporting the noble cause of BBI.
Raila Odinga awarded him a certificate of good work in recognition of his outstanding and exemplary skills in student leadership, his immense contribution in Building Bridges Initiative, BBI, by spearheading the ‘Change the Narrative’ campaign nationally.
Manyara recently petitioned to parliament over increasing rate of corruption in the country.
In the petition, Manyara and Wangai say that NYS is being misused by the people managing it to steal funds.
According to them, NYS does not have predetermined functions leaving its role to the “imagination of those in charge”.
54 people were implicated in the Sh 9 billion NYS scandal including NYS Director General Richard Ndubai and Youth Affairs PS Lillian Ndubai.
The public has been closely watching how the case unfolds. Previously, most of the public officials who have been implicated in corruption scandals have walked free from courts due to the lack of evidence.
It is expectedd that Manyara will be on ballot come 2022,but when asked over the same he says,
It is my wish to serve all Kenyans, but in architecture we say, the foundation forms a basis to which a firm structure is erected. I hail from Tigania East in Meru County, a region I have served as the Youths Chairman and a key building block amongst the youths.
My people look up to me with great expectations; they’re waiting for me to finish school. Last year I postponed my ambitions and shelved them for Tigania East MP, Hon. Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea. In 2022, kitaeleweka. Comrades are always right!
